CEOG and Village Prospérité complete a sustainable long term partnership
24.10.2024
On 24th October 24, CEOG and Village Prospérité, signed a 25-year partnership endowment fund aimed at ensuring the sustainable socio-economic and cultural development of the local community living nearby the hybrid solar and hydrogen power plant in French Guiana.
The endowment fund will support, among others and to begin with, economic initiatives aimed at the self-sufficiency of the Village, but also the building of new roadways and pathways to optimize their day to day mobility and activities.
Together with the agreement signed by end of last August 24, which established the foundations of the successful implementation and operation of the renewable plant, this is another critical step towards a solid long-term partnership between CEOG and Village Prospérité.
Designed to produce 100% renewable electricity from the sun, the plant prefigures the future of renewable energies by eliminating their intermittency through storage on an industrial scale. It will provide electricity 24 hours a day for the equivalent of 10,000 homes in Western Guyana, without generating greenhouse gases, fine particles, or smoke. It is estimated to avoid the emission of 39,000 tons of CO2 per year compared to a thermal power plant. Operating autonomously, the plant will also secure the electricity supply of the Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni basin in case of failure or maintenance of the electrical network.
The commissioning of CEOG power plant is scheduled in July 2026.
