Our impact

Ibiza Hospital, Spain

Background:

The hospital is located in Ibiza, in the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. The c. 79,000m2 public hospital has a 296-bed capacity serving a population of 160,000 people across Ibiza and Formentera. The project includes the operation of non-clinical services for Hospital Can Misses along with two other healthcare centers.

Ibiza Hospital has a full range of emergency care facilities including surgery, paediatrics, ICU and neonatal, radiotherapy and obstetrics. The hospital hosts 58 consultation rooms, 26 examination rooms, 22 speciality premises and five delivery and recovery premises.

Ibiza Hospital has subcontracted the operation and maintenance to the Ibiza Operating Company and this entity has subcontracted most of the services (except for laundry, restoration and the cafeteria) to third-party subcontractors. These relationships are typically back-to-back where the subcontractor bears the full risk in case of penalties from the Grantor.

ESG/SDG Key Facts

The sustainability roadmap for 2024 was developed in Q4 2024 with new proposals for improvement.
A detailed ESG assessment was prepared by the Project Company in Q3 2024.

SDG 5 (Gender Equality)

After the implementation of the Equality Plan last year, further progress is being made in the scheduled actions, such as the training of employees on the prevention of sexual and gender-based harassment. An LGTBI harassment prevention plan was completed in Q4 2024.

SDG 7 (Affordable and clean energy)

The hospital has solar panels to generate part of the electricity requirements and has a reverse osmosis plant that uses seawater for sanitary purposes. Additional EV charging infrastructure is awaiting approval by the Grantor. The Project Company finalised in Q1 2023 an energy efficiency study for all hospital buildings and services and has started to implement the recommended initiatives. These ongoing measures include amongst others: improvements in energy consumption, regular reports on consumption and a handbook on best practices, change of lighting to LEDs and a switch to a zero-emissions electricity provider.

SDG 12 (Responsible consumption and production) –
Since Q1 2025, grey water from the Hospital kitchen and laundry services is reused for the hospital’s toilets, decreasing drinking water consumption.
