2005

Meridiam was established in France and the United States of America by Thierry Déau, formerly Chief Executive of Egis Projects (a subsidiary of France’s Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations, specialized in developing, financing and managing infrastructure projects), with operational and financial support from ECOM Technology Corp. and the Crédit Agricole Group
2006

Meridiam secures its two first projects: > The Limerick Tunnel in Ireland, a 10-km-long tolled dual carriageway bypass and a 675 metre-long immersed tube tunnel under a river, which began operating in July 2010; > the A5 highway in Austria, a new 51.5 km motorway, north east of Vienna, which opened to traffic in January 2010
2007

Involvement of Meridiam in its first social infrastructure project in the UK. Developement and management of more than 40 buildings with a capital value of over £460m. They are home to a wide range of modern, primary, integrated and community health services as well as social care, leisure and third sector services. 2008

Final closing of the first fund worth €547m. 11 assets developed and under management today for a total value of more than €17 billion
2009

Meridiam is awarded Port of Miami Tunnel project. The infrastructure diverts around 16,000 vehicles of daily traffic – much of it being heavy trucks, from downtown Miami, so reducing congestion, improving quality of lives and aiding economic development. Financial close of R1 Motorway project in Slovakia. Developed to improve an important transport corridor for western Slovakia, the road’s safety and to aid economic development in the region
2010

First two Meridiam projects come into operation: Limerick Tunnel in Ireland and Ypsilon in Austria. Montreal healthcare research center (CRCHUM) Closing. Carry out the entire spectrum of basic, clinic and population health research (CAN$608m). Texas managed lane contract (US$2,652m) to rebuilt of one the busiest and most congested highways in Texas, with average daily traffic of more than 250,000 vehicles. Meridiam is a signatory of United Nations Principles – UNPRI to bring recognition to its founding commitment to ESG. Opening of an office in New York. Launch of two further funds in Europe and North America
2011

Closing of the South Europe Atlantic High-Speed rail line in France (Tours -Bordeaux). The largest construction site in Europe at the time, 300km high speed rail line, creating 5000 jobs (opened in 2017). Nottingham Express Transit (UK) closing (£589m). Meridiam first fund (2006 Vintage) fully invested and mobilized €17bn of investment in Europe and the US
2012

Final closing of second generation of Meridiam funds: Meridiam Infrastructure Europe II (€904m), Meridiam North America II (US$1.05bn). Meridiam awarded high-speed rail bypass Nîmes - Montpellier in France. An investment of more than €1.8bn
2013

Mobilizing alternative sources of debt finance: the first unwrapped and not enhanced project bond in Europe for The University of Hertfordshire, and 2 other project bonds in Europe: France - L2 Marseille bypass, and Slovakia - R1 highway refinancing (largest European issue at the time). Long Beach Courthouse opens to the public. First Social Infrastructure PPP in the US. A modern, and energy efficient building, certified Leadership in energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold. Opening of an office in Istanbul. Meridiam endowment for academic research to EDHEC-Risk Institute
2014

Launch of Meridiam Africa Fund mobilizing 50% of private LPs for the Continent, first Meridiam impact oriented fund. Miami tunnel opens to public. 16,000 vehicles diverted every day from downtown Miami, reducing congestion, improving quality of air and lives and aiding economic development of the Port of Miami. Around 6000 local residents worked on the project. Co-Founding of LTIIA (Long Term Infrastructure InvestorsAssociation) under the patronage of French Ministry of Finance
2015

Closing for the extension of Port of Calais in France, leading passenger port in continental Europe (10 million passengers/ year) and 4th largest freight port in France (43 million tons of freight/year) mobilizing 41-year project bond. New public private partnership approach: construction was tendered post award of the contract by Meridiam and public shareholders. Construction completion scheduled for January 2021. Full Operation of 41 primary healthcare projects in UK serving 4.5 millions patients per year. Pioneering blended finance solutions with the first Turkish green and social bond for Elazig hospital with EBRD and MIGA. 100% of Meridiam SAS owned by the management team.
2016

Closing of Meridiam Transition Fund (€485m). Impact oriented fund to target resilience of electric systems and grids, circular economy and, smart cities and electromobility. Closing of Meridiam Europe III (€1.1bn) raised in 4 months and 4 times oversubscribed. Completion of Owendo Port in Gabon. An essential port infrastructure for Gabon to foster economic development. Acquisition and construction completion of Amman airport. The airport welcomed 7.4 million passengers in 2016 and was named Best Airport in the Middle East
2017

Meridiam Second generation of funds (MINAII and MIEII) fully invested in 36 projects and mobilized €33bn of capex. Closing of Meridiam North America III (US$1.2 bn). Closing of Virginia I66 managed lane project. Meridiam led consortium issues firstever green bond on US PPP project on purple line light rail. Opening Ten Merina and Senergy, 2 solar plants among the largest in West Africa, supporting Senegal Plan Emergent, with 40MW additional clean energy capacity Offices opened in Ethiopia (Addis Ababa) and Austria (Vienna). Financing of a Chair at the Ecole des Ponts ParisTech
2018

Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) fully integrated into Meridiam investment process and reporting. Successful refinancing of the concession holder of South Europe Atlantic high-speed line’s commercial debts. Crowdfunding campaign to finance “Agrimaine Méthanisation” project in Mayenne. Investment in NEoT Offgrid Africa and CEOG (Centrale Electrique de l’Ouest Guyanais). Development and financing of a biomass cogeneration plant and a pellet mill contributing to the coal phase out initiated in France. Opening of the first 11 gates in LaGuardia Airport. Opening of Meridiam’s third hospital in Elazig in Turkey. Opening of the L2 North, in Marseille. Acquisition of a majority stake in Airport International Group (AIG), the concessionaire for the Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) in Amman. Acquisition of Allego, a leading independent European Electric Vehicle (EV) charging solutions provider. Finland E18 motorway opens to the public. A vital mobility corridor connecting Helsinki to Saint Petersburg. Re-opening of Meridiam Africa Fund to reach €546m (2.5 times the initial size) mobilizing 75% of private LPs and targeting €3bn of capex mobilized
2019

Opening of fourth Meridiam PPP hospital in Turkey, serving c. 10% of healthcare needs in the country. Awarded Poland Olztyn waste to energy plant. Awarded Sofia airport concession contract. Closing 2 PV plants (60MW) in Senegal part of IFC Scaling Solar Program with tariff below €4c/kwh. Scheduled completion of Ivato and Nosy Bé Airports in Madagascar, critical infrastructure for the country’s tourism industry doubling the airports capacity. Scheduled opening of Spain Gipuzkoa waste to energy plant. Launching The Urban Resilience Fund initiative with Rockefeller Foundation to adress cities’ resilience and SDG Investments. 1st anniversary of Florence's Tramway. Meridiam becomes one of the first French companies to adopt France’s new mission-driven Benefit Corporation status. Awarded the first social PPP project in Finland. Awarded 50-year Utility Management Concession with the University of Iowa toward a zero-carbon transition.
2020

Partnership to provide full fiber optic access for 25 municipalities in Germany. Financial close of the 50-year concession contract with the University of Iowa’s utility system. Opening of the Felix Bulnes Hospital in Santiago, Chili, Meridiam's first health facility in South America, providing services to a population of 1.2 million people. Meridiam's 15th anniversay.
