The anniversary commemorates the delivery, opening, and first decade of successful operation of the northeast section of Edmonton’s ring road.

EDMONTON, October 29, 2026 – Meridiam is proud to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Northeast Anthony Henday Drive (NEAH) in Edmonton, Alberta, in partnership with the Government of Alberta through Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors. The project is managed by Capital City Link GP, the project company Meridiam has fully owned since 2019 which oversees NEAH’s operations and maintenance.

The 26-kilometer-long six to eight-lane divided highway includes 52 bridges, nine interchanges, and eight railway crossings, representing a total investment of $1.5B CAD. The roadway is the final section of the ring road surrounding Edmonton to be finished, completing more than six decades of planning and development by local leaders upon its opening on October 1, 2016.[1]

The roadway has enhanced both the safety and efficiency of mobility in and around the Edmonton area by reducing overall traffic congestion and providing an effective alternative route for commercial vehicles carrying heavy goods to bypass the city center, with approximately 75,000 vehicles using the NEAH daily. The ring road has also contributed to the region’s economic growth by strengthening connections between Alberta’s capital, the province, and markets across North America while improving access for local and international businesses as a part of the CANAMEX Trade Corridor.[2] The project’s long-term operations also support local employment, with over 2,000 jobs anticipated over the 30-year contract for ongoing maintenance, rehabilitation, and operation.

As NEAH marks its 10-year anniversary, the Project Company remains committed to the long-term operation and maintenance of the roadway, including efforts to reduce its environmental impact. The project’s Wetland Compensation Plan has developed 60 hectares of new wetland habitat to compensate for 20 hectares impacted, more than tripling the original impacted area. The wildflower plantings established on the asset are increasing in both the population and the size of plants, while beehives have attracted a diverse range of insect species and achieved an overall good nesting rate, serving as valuable indicators of good biodiversity health in the surrounding area. The project has also taken steps to reduce energy use, including an LED upgrade, which has delivered up to 37% in energy savings. The Project Company will continue to focus on the long-term operation and maintenance of NEAH, supporting safe, reliable and efficient traffic flow for its tens of thousands of daily drivers.

“When we first began work on the Northeast Anthony Henday Drive more than a decade ago, we set out to bring a longstanding vision to life in a timely, cost-effective, and sustainable way while delivering lasting benefits to the Edmonton community,” said Nicolas Rubio, Americas CEO at Meridiam. “Today’s celebrations not only mark 10 years of safe and reliable service, but also reflect our lasting commitment to the project and to delivering community benefits for years to come. We are delighted with the project’s strong track record and the broad benefits it has brought to surrounding communities over the past decade.”

“Ten years ago, the northeast section of Edmonton’s Anthony Henday Drive was officially opened, completing the ring road to improve transportation, facilitate economic development and help connect municipalities in the capital region,” said Honourable Danielle Smith, Premier of Alberta. “The project is a wonderful example of collaboration and the power of P3 partnerships, and I hope this gathering is a chance to reflect on that success and look ahead to future opportunities.”

One of the top public-private transportation developers in North America,[3] Meridiam has developed more than 2,400 kilometers of roads across 30 projects with a total contracted value of $28 billion. The Northeast Anthony Henday Drive represents the first of Meridiam’s two public-private partnerships (P3) with the Province of Alberta alongside the ongoing operation and maintenance of the Southwest Calgary Ring Road project following its successful completion in 2021. Together, these projects underscore Meridiam’s continued partnership with public-sector stakeholders to deliver and support critical infrastructure across Canada.
