ESG/SDG Key Facts

SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production)

Since the start of construction, 90% of construction and demolition waste has been diverted from landfills for recycling1. For the operational phase, the LGP pursues waste reduction
through it “B Green” initiatives, including the introduction of waste sorting bins, elimination of certain food packaging materials.

SDG 13 (Climate Action)

Building was designed to include Flood mitigation. LGP has also deployed electric charging infrastructure for future airline ground service equipment, electric ground power and AC for aircraft, efficient baggage system (sleep mode) and implements more efficient taxiways to reduce delays and idle time. The Project Company is currently identifying future actions to reduce carbon emissions from aircraft. Support the Port Authority in its client goals which are: to reduce operational control emissions by 50% from baseline by 2030 and reduce all agency emissions to net zero emission by 2050.

LGP had a goal of procuring 30% of sub-contracts during construction with Minority and Women Owned Business (“MWBE”) contracting firms. Regular outreach activities are held with the local Queens community related to MWBE opportunities and general Project updates with local leaders and community groups. LGP has set high goals for Airport Concession Disadvantage Business Enterprises (“ACDBE”) participation in the retail and food & beverage concessions. The Project Company is meeting its goals for 30% MWBE for its O&M phase sub-contracts and 20% ACDBE operators for concessions. During the construction phase 40% of the subcontracts were MWDBE (initial goal 30%).

The Project Company has recently ordered 4 electric buses to transport employees’ airside between concourses and headhouse, has installed EV charging infrastructure for airline Ground Service Equipment, and has developed a partnership with an operator of an off-site secured warehouse to consolidate and efficiently transport goods to the terminal. In 2019, the LaGuardia Central Terminal B Redevelopment Project was recognized by the Institute of Sustainable Infrastructure with the Envision Platinum award for its resilience and sustainability2. In July 2021, Terminal B has been awarded LEED v4 Gold certification3 for the completed phases of the new terminal, which encompasses the Arrivals & Departures Hall, Eastern Concourse, Eastern Pedestrian Bridge and the Central Heating and Refrigeration Plant.

In 2021, the World Jury of the Prix Versailles also honored LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B with the World Title in the Airports category. In 2022, the Project Company has set up a Partnership with the Public Art Fund of New York and launched partnering initiatives with local Queens organizations (Vaughn College, local schools & non-profits).
