Our impact

Annemasse Bonneville Hospital, France

Background

Historically, the Centre Hospitalier Intercommunal d’Annemasse-Bonneville (“CHIAB”) was located on two different sites: Annemasse and Bonneville, 20km apart. The Project merged all hospital activities into a single site, located in
Contamine-sur-Arve midway between the two cities. The new facility comprises 445 beds and has general practitioner, surgery and obstetrics/gynecology departments.
In 2008, the Project Company signed a long-term hospital lease with the French State, represented by the “Ministry of Health” through the CHIAB, for the financing, construction and operation of the new hospital. It will cover an overall period of 31 years post-construction. Construction of the hospital was completed in 2011.
The Centre Hospitalier Alpes Léman (CHAL, new name of the CHIAB) handles ca. 38,000 hospitalisations, 200,000 medical consultations, 60,000 admissions to Emergency Department and 2,000 births a year (2021 data). It trains more than 300 medical students a year.
Since 2016, the CHAL has been heading the Leman – Mont Blanc GHT (Groupement Hospitalier de Territoire) and its 5500 employees (including 500 doctors) in 7 hospitals.

ESG/SDG Key Facts

The hospital is the first employer of North Haute-Savoie with 2 000 employees. For the last 10 years the CHAL has been
involved in a national scientific program to track pollution of the natural environment by pharmaceutical residues from
hospitals. The extension building that opened in Q1 2020 also includes a shelter for homeless people.

SDG 7 (Affordable and clean energy)

There is a gain/pain share mechanism in place to incentivise the Maintainer to reduce the energy consumed by the building equipment. The Project Company disclosed its energy consumption on the ADEME platform in December 2022 (Décret Tertiaire). Outside lighting switched to LEDs in 2020. 50% of the heating needs of the hospital are met by wood biomass, which is locally sourced. The Project Company is investigating in conjunction with the Grantor and the Maintainer, additional energy efficiency and consumption reduction measures (such as upgrading existing HVAC equipment, revisiting contractual air temperature / air change rates, increasing the share of biomass vs. gas etc). The Project Company has also launched initial economic studies for parking shades equipped with solar panels.

SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production)

This aims at limiting the quantity of hazardous waste and improving its treatment. A specific procedure was
implemented by the Maintainer in Q2 2023 to handle Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).

SDG 13 (Climate action)

The main initiative is focused on emission reduction targets. This action is part of their strategic
roadmap for 2020-2024.
