Prestigious partnerships with universities

Meridiam has created a web of partnerships with some of the world’s most outstanding higher education institutions:

  • Harvard University, where Joe Aiello of Meridiam holds a seat on the International Council of the Belfer Center (John F. Kennedy School of Government).
  • École des Ponts ParisTech (a leading French engineering school), where Meridiam awards several study grants each year to host international students earning dual degrees.

Supporting research on infrastructure funding

In early 2013, Meridiam and EDHEC-Risk Institute, a prominent academic institution in the field of financial research and risk management, teamed up with the leading private equity and infrastructure advisory firm of Campbell Lutyens to support the first academic chair dedicated to research on infrastructure equity investment.

The Chair is aimed at providing a better understanding of the nature of equity investment in infrastructure assets by developing a performance index for the sector, which financial regulators, institutional investors and all other market operators can ultimately use as their benchmark for this asset class.

The results of this research will also support the implementation of new prudential regulations of the financial sector, particularly in Europe (Solvency II framework, reform of the Institutions for Occupational Retirement Provision IORP Directive).

A pilot micro-insurance project for small contractors

Since 2008, we have been providing considerable support to the activities of Entrepreneurs de la Cité, a foundation tackling poverty and fostering the development of SMEs and self-employment through microfinance. In addition to providing financial support, Meridiam has committed to developing new micro-insurance solutions tailored to the needs of very small businesses with low revenues to help them manage their risks.

Since the start of the project, Meridiam has supported over 500 French small businesses through microinsurance and has also contributed to helping 850 others manage their professional risks. In 2012, Meridiam supported the foundation’s initiative for small contractors and provided a ten-year micro-guarantee enabling 30 contractors to benefit from this new form of insurance.

Academic tutoring

Meridiam has been investing in ADOS since 2012. This association works on behalf of young people in a low-income district of Paris (“La Goutte d’Or”)  by providing academic tutoring, social visits and outreach to young people who are members of the association.

The aim of this support is to help improve the qualifications of the young people in the program and give them a chance at finding a better job.
