Marathon of Athens: MERIDIAM commits for the underprivileged children around the world

Celebrating the 2 500th anniversary of the historical Battle of Marathon, Team Meridiam participated to the Marathon of Marathons in Athens, on October, 31st, 2010.

Considered as “the Marathon of Marathons” because of its symbolic value, the run starts from the historical site of Marathon to Athens, ending up in one of the first Olympic stadiums of the modern world. Its mountainous path makes it one of the most difficult marathons of the world.

Along with the 12 500 other participants, “Team Meridiam’”, led by its CEO Thierry Déau, choose to put this athletic challenge to the benefit of a humanitarian cause, by raising funds to help children around the world. Meridiam, which supported the marathon as “platinum sponsor” ahead of the other 75 participating companies, offers its partners and friends the possibility to donate on line on www.bmycharity.com/meridiam until January, 31st, 2010.

This project was run with the help of 250 members of both private equity and infrastructures communities, which collectively raised about 1,6 million Euros, making of this event the single biggest charitable fundraise that these two communities have ever jointly undertaken. All of the money thus raised will go to the Marathon of Marathons Trust. Half of it will go to the UNICEF, the other half to a number of other children’s charities.

All members of « Team Meridiam » have successfully finished the race, obtaining good results thanks to the collective efforts of Thierry Déau (7.40.28), Omri Gainsburg (6.10.21), Olivier Garnier (2.43.53), Parviz Majdedi (7.40.28) and Jean-François Marco (5.20.01). Moreover, tow team-mates Michael Winkler (3.43.35) and Matthias Benz (4.15.33), joining from Deutsch Bank, also run as part of Team Meridiam.
